Shamrock Coasters with Pot

February 26, 2023

I am so excited to share my newest creation!  I was inspired by the viral Monstera Leaf coasters in the little pots, but decided to put a St. Patrick’s Day spin on it.

*If you do not crochet and would like to purchase a set, you can do so here in my Etsy shop!*

To start, I used a shamrock pattern found on youtube by RonariCrochet.  You can find the link here.  It is very quick to make and comes out absolutely adorable.  I used Hobby Lobby ‘I love this cotton’ yarn in the color Serene Spa and my trusty Clover Armour 5.0mm hook.  The only changes I made were to the stem.  I preferred mine a little shorter.

The pot is my own pattern, super quick and easy to whip up.  Here’s how I did it:

Materials needed:

Abbreviations:

  • ch- chain
  • HDC- half double crochet
  • sts- stitches
  • HDC2TOG- half double crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)

Instructions:

NOTE:  All rounds are joined to the first stitch.  First stitch of each round is placed in the same stitch as join.

  1. Begin with a magic circle, HDC 9, close circle and join to 1st stitch. (9 sts)
  2. ch1, 2 HDC in each stitch around, add 2 HDC into space where you slip stitched the previous row. (20 sts)
  3. ch1, [HDC in first stitch, 1 HDC in next] *repeat around. (30 sts)
  4. ch1, HDC in back loop only of each stitch around. (30 sts)
  5. ch1, HDC in each stitch around. (30 sts)
  6. ch1, HDC in each stitch around. (30 sts)
  7. ch1, [HDC in first 3 sts, HDC2TOG .] *repeat around.  Join to first stich and weave in ends.  I like to use the invisible join, there are some great tutorials on youtube.

To finish off I cut a piece of faux leather and attached it to the pot with a Chicago tag.  You can also sew on a tag, add a button, or decorate however you want.

Here are the materials I used to make the leather tag. I cut a simple rectangle with rounded edges, and use a leather punch tool to make the hole for the Chicago screw.

All from Amazon: Faux leather sheets, cutting tool, chicago screws.
